Random notes about a heavily constructed wood boat originally built for use as a British Columbia Forestry Service vessel.
Currently, MV Hecate Ranger is privately owned and operated.
My Dad worked on (may have skippered) the Hecate Ranger in the 1960's. He has dementia now but I'm trying to chronicle as much of his history as I can. I'll try to learn more about his time on this vessel and pass along to you, if your interested. If you have any more information about the boat, I'd like to pass it along to Dad, while he still remembers. Ron Young Langley, BC
My first experience on the high seas was on the Hecate Ranger in the winter of 64/65. I worked for the forest service (my first job out of school) on a cruising crew. We headed out of Prince Rupert for Queen Charlotte City to do some cruising work. On the way we encountered rough seas and the Captain (an older fellow) decided to head over to Banks Island and calmer waters. We dropped anchor off Banks Island and spent the day beach combing waiting for calmer seas. Gathered lots of glass floats which detached from the Japanese fishing nets. A great experiece on a wonderful vessel. Ron LePage, Vernon, BC
